Neymar and PSG pact to facilitate return to Barcelona

The Ligue 1 club and the Brazilian star have an agreement in place that would allow the player to rejoin his Camp Nou former teammates for the start of the 2020/21 season.

There are many Barcelona fans who dream of seeing Neymar dressed in the Barça shirt once again. And that wish could come true this summer.

Neymar pact to return to Camp Nou

The Brazilian star has reached an agreement with PSG to facilitate his departure and return to Barça ahead of next season, if, of course, the Catalan club can find the means to make it happen. The pact between Neymar and the Parisians was reached after the attempt last summer by Barça to sign him failed. In return for him staying and giving maximum commitment and involvement until the end of the season, the agreement to leave was made. As it stands, with the return of the Champions League awaited and Ligue 1 already concluded, Neymar has played 22 games, scored 18 goals and provided 10 assists.

In France there has been talk for months that PSG had scheduled the departure this summer of one of its two great stars (Neymar or Kylian Mbappé), along with Edinson Cavani. However, as everything is pointing ever more towards a return to the Camp Nou for the Brazilian, finances have to be considered.

It would appear that the salary agreement made last summer between the player's father and Barcelona would remain, while the transfer price could be around 170 million euros. Barça would aim to reduce the outlay by including players in the transfer and may try to tempt PSG into taking some high-profile stars with much potential, with Frenchmen Griezmann and Dembelé likely options. Then there's the court proceedings between the two.

Neymar's desire is still to return to Barcelona and he has let slip to some of his Brazilian teammates that this summer it can be achieved. From Barça’s perspective, a signing like Neymar could appease several of their supporters, and disgruntled players, on the back of what could be a very disappointing season. Rivals Real Madrid are in pole position to take the LaLiga title and there is tough competition remaining in the Champions League. Clearly success in those competitions would change the current feeling at the club, at least in the short term.
