The spokesperson for the Iranian administration, Ali Rabiee, said on Tuesday that authorities may need to bring back some of the restrictions they previously eased in an attempt to contain the uncontrollable Covid-19 situation in the country.

Rabiee stated that it's highly recommended now that they impose some restrictions to curb the virus spread, although the government hasn't yet decided which restrictive measures to bring back, adding that "the return to normalcy and unnecessary gatherings of individuals caused a new wave in the spread of the disease."

Coronavirus in Iran: A record-high death rate

Iran has witnessed a record high rate of deaths since being hit by the pandemic, as 200 infected patients died in the past 24 hours due to the virus, while the overall death tally soared to 11,931.

The Ministry of Health’s spokeswoman, Sima Sadat Lari, was quoted on Tuesday stating "the number of new coronavirus cases made up 2,637, while the overall number of infections has amounted to 245,688."

According to the ministry of health, 207,000 patients have recovered, while 1,846,793 Covid-19 tests have been conducted since the pandemic started.

On 11 April the Iranian authorities lifted many restrictions and precautionary measures that were mainly taken to contain the spread of Covid 19; people got back to work, shopping malls and restaurants were allowed to re-open, the ban on traveling between provinces was lifted which resulted into the chaotic situation the country is currently suffering from.
