Patrick Mahomes is now one of the owners of Kansas City Royals

After winning the Super Bowl last year the Kansas City Chiefs wanted to secure their star player Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs gave the quarterback a 10-year extension putting him under contract with the team for the next 12 seasons. Mahomes will receive $83 million-plus in signing bonuses from 2021 to ‘23. Those three years are fully guaranteed.

With all that money Patrick Mahomes is investing in his future because on Tuesday, the Kansas City Royals announced that the quarterback became the newest member of its ownership group. In a statement released by Royal’s chairman, John Sherman, they expressed how excited they were with the news.

“We are very proud and excited to have Patrick as our partner in the ownership group of this franchise. Along with the rest of Kansas City, I have watched Patrick compete and become an extraordinary leader, both on and off the football field

...Consistent with the entirety of our ownership group, he has a deep commitment to Kansas City and a real passion for the game of baseball, dating back to his childhood,” read part of the statement from the Royals.

Mahomes has a past with baseball

Before joining the NFL, winning the Super Bowl and signing a contract worth as much as $503 million with the Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes’s career could’ve changed if he chose baseball as a career. The quarterback’s dad, Pat Mahomes, spent 11 years in the big leagues, while his godfather, Latroy Hawkins, spent 21 years in MLB.

I’m honored to become a part owner of the Kansas City Royals,” Mahomes said. “I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”
