Coronavirus US: when are the gyms opening in New York?

New York was, for many months, the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States. That is why the Empire State has been reopening its economy very slowly  in order to prevent another surge in coronavirus cases. On Friday Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that bowling alleys, gyms, museums and other low-risk indoor cultural venus would soon be reopening.

On Monday 17 August, bowling alleys will be allowed to reopen but only at 50% of their full capacity. Also bowlers must wear face masks and every other lane will remain closed to maintain social distancing and follow the health guidelines amid the outbreak. Food and alcohol services will also be limited.

Update on gyms on Monday

Even though Cuomo included gyms, museums and other low-risk indoor cultural venues in his reopening statement, he didn’t say when this would happen. It is, however, expected that the Gov. will announce the dates of reopening on Monday, most likely setting them for 24 August. Cuomo also advised that these venues would be operating at 25% occupancy.

New York has moved to the next phase of reopening its economy because of the decrease in coronavirus cases, which has declined below 1% over the past week. “Given the results that we have and given the progress we’ve made, we’re going to make some changes and adjustments,” Cuomo said.
