Since the news broke, several big clubs in Europe have been considering signing arguably the footballer in the world ahead of the 2020/21 season. Only financial powerhouses will be able to afford the Argentinian, one of which is Manchester City.

Messi could end his career in the MLS

The ‘Citizens’ have reportedly offered Messi a long-term contract that would end with him playing at their MLS partner club, New York City FC.

Manchester City bosses want Lionel Messi to play three years at Etihad, until he is 36-years-old, and then play at New York City FC for another two years, according to Mundo Deportivo. Speculation linking Messi with City intensified after the Barcelona forward started following the Premier League club on Instagram yesterday, while Kun Agüero changed his username on the same social media site from “kunaguero10” to just “kunaguero”.

Reportedly, Messi’s lawyers are already in possession of the contract from Manchester City and are currently looking over it as the player decides whether to stay or leave FC Barcelona after 16 seasons. Other teams that can afford Messi and that have shown real interest are Juventus, PSG and Manchester United.
