Delhi Capitals new signing Daniel Sams raises many eyebrows
A previously unknown name in the cricket world has recently surfaced following being signed by Delhi Capitals. Sams is to replace the injured English opener Jason Roy in their squad for IPL 2020.
Delhi Capitals were forced to make a late change to their squad for IPL 2020 due to the injury of their English opener Jason Roy who was ruled out of the upcoming competition before being replaced with the new signing Daniel Sams who remains a relative unknown with the acquisition surprising many cricket fans.
Sams is a left-arm medium-pace bowler as well as a useful pinch-hitter lower down the order, who made his debut back in 2017 Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League where he immediately made a good impression by picking four wickets in his debut game.
However, the 2019-2020 season was when the all-rounder from New South Wales excelled the most the Sydney Thunder as he picked up 30 wickets in 17 games, to end up as the highest wicket-taker in the competition. This number was the fifth-highest achieved by any bowler in a T20 competition, putting him in the league of T20 legends like Dwayne Bravo.
Although Sams is far from a household name, a handful of experts believe that he is going to be a very valuable addition to the Delhi Capitals squad.
Sams previous impressive performances made him worthy of an international call-up and he will be part of the Australian squad that will tour England for 3 T20I games starting 4 September.
Moreover, one of the characteristics that make Sams valuable to any team, is that he a left-armed bowler, which is considered a priceless commodity in IPL, while some people even see in him a potential replacement for Delhi Capitals that earlier had to let go of Trent Boult the premier left-arm pace bowler for this edition of the IPL.
