Atlético will move for Cavani if PSG sign Diego Costa

PSG are studying the possibility of signing the Atlético forward. If Costa ends up leaving, Edinson Cavani is lined up as his replacement.

Diego Costa

Diego Costa could be on the move before Monday's transfer deadline. The Atlético Madrid forward admitted on Sunday that he will not object if the club decides to sell him. His agent Jorge Mendes has spent the past few looks studying a number of possible outlets for the player. Out of all of the options, Paris Saint-Germain is the most convincing.

PSG are weighing up whether to sign Diego Costa, who would join as a free agent. The French club have to keep within UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations and right now, they are at the limit of their salary budget and would have to sell a player to bring another in.

If Diego Costa leaves, Atlético will sign another striker. According to club sources, Edinson Cavani is the one who will replace him. The Uruguayan, whose contract with PSG has expired, is currently without a team. Atlético tried, unsuccessfully, to bring him to Madrid in January. Over the past few weeks there are been constant contact with Cavani and an agreement could be reached as soon as Costa moves on.

Atlético's other options to replace Diego Costa

Cavani's arrival would effectively leave Atlético with Uruguay's strike partnership - a prospect that excites the fans. However, other sources at the club claim that if Diego Costa joins PSG, it won't be Cavani who comes in to replace him. Three options are on the table - Valencia's Maxi Gómez, Napoli's Milik and Espanyol's Raúl de Tomás.

As well as signing a striker to replace Diego Costa, Atlético could also sign Arsenal's Lucas Torreira on the condition that Héctor Herrera accepts one of the offers he has received. The Mexican is mulling over an offer from Zenit, but isn't entirely convinced that he wants to leave Atlético. Another player who has turned down the chance to leave is Mario Hermoso, who rejected offers from Real Sociedad and Leicester. Atleti are also looking for an outlet for Thomas Lemar.

It's been a bust few days in the back offices at the Wanda Metropolitano with Riquelme closing his loan move to Bournemouth and Mollejo completing a one-year loan deal with Getafe, which will be confirmed after the Huesca game. Simeone explained after the Granada match that his squad is not yet complete. El Cholo is keen to strengthen his squad and hopes the club will comply to his wishes before the market closes.
