Qatar 2022: Cooperation with the Tourism Council to cater for visiting fans
The National Tourism Council will cooperate with the Committee for Delivery and Legacy in the development of areas for visiting fans at Qatar 2022.
Al Baker, General Secretary for the National Tourism Council and Executive Director of Qatar Airways Group announced that great efforts are being made by partners from the public and private sectors to develop new tourist experiences, products and services which will strengthen Qatar’s position as a world class destination. More annual sporting events and international tournaments will be added to Qatar’s sporting calendar, particularly in the run-up to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Enhancing the experience of visiting Qatar
“Running up to Qatar 2022, more international sporting events and tournaments will be added to the events calendar which will contribute in helping to strengthen Qatar’s position in the field of global sport,” Al Baker explained in an interview with Qatari newspaper Al-Sharq. “We are aiming to create a path which will lead to sustainable growth, through our investment in the ecotourism sector as well as enhancing visitors’ experience to meet all of their needs and developing tourism offers will provide an encouraging environment for investors. There are projects in progress within the infrastructure such as the expansion of the Port of Doha so that it will be able to accommodate three ships in berth at the same time. This will strengthen Qatar’s position as an attractive tourist destination,” he added.

“During 2019, 10 establishments related to the hospitality industry were granted licenses along with 24 tourism offices, four cruise boats, nine fun parks, 14 business events offices, three offices for organizing tourist events as well as 114 diverse business events. While domestic tourism holds a significant place within tourism strategy in general, today it is more important than ever in the recovery of the tourism sector,” he concluded.
