With a narrow 1-0 win over Arsenal in the Premier League last weekend, the pressure for City is back again in the European tournament, after being sent packing at the quarter-finals for the third year in a row.
Pep Guardiola’s side will look to secure three points despite the absence of important players. Injured Belgian star Kevin de Bruyne will be sidelined for at least two weeks, while defenders Aymeric Laporte, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Benjamin Mendy will also miss out the match.
Argentinian Sergio Agüero, though, will lead the line in the absence of Gabriel Jesus, who suffered an injury last month.
The situation is pretty different for the Portuguese side, with only two absentees: Iván Marcano and Mouhamed Mbaye, with anterior cruciate ligament injuries.
On the plus side for the visitors, attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson is fit again and will probably start on the left-hand side.
Porto make their return to the group stage of the Champions League following a one-year absence, since they were beaten by FC Krasnodar in qualifying last year. Marseille and Olympiacos are the two other teams that will threaten its chances of qualifying in Group C.
