Georgia

How many votes are still to be counted? 50,000 (1% of total votes cast)

Who is ahead as it stands? President Donald Trump is currently a miniscule 1,900 votes ahead and that margin is shrinking fast.

What’s on offer here? Trump really needs to hold out in Georgia to have any chance, the 16 Electoral votes would essentially seal the presidency for Joe Biden if he can flip the state.

North Carolina

How many votes are still to be counted? 348,000 (6% of total votes cast)

Who is ahead as it stands? Trump leads by a margin of 76,701 votes as it stands, in a traditionally Republican-favouring state.

What’s on offer here? North Carolina has 15 Electoral College votes and represents another opportunity for Biden to flip a red state.

Pennsylvania

How many votes are still to be counted? 732,000 (10% of total votes cast)

Who is ahead as it stands? Another with Trump narrowly ahead but his margin is getting cut down by the hour as Biden makes a late charge to pick up the votes in his hometown state. Trump’s victory here in 2016 was a surprise win and he became the first Republican to win there since 1992.

What’s on offer here? Pennsylvania is the biggest prize still on the board with a massive 20 Electoral College votes on offer. Victory here for Biden would be decisive.

Nevada

How many votes are still to be counted? 233,000 (16% of total votes cast)

Who is ahead as it stands? Joe Biden is currently in the lead in Nevada with a margin of 11,438 votes, although Nevada does not look likely to announce a victor tonight.

What’s on offer here? With six Electoral College votes Nevada is not a massive prize in isolation but it could be enough to land Biden the White House. Assuming the early call of Arizona for the Democrats holds then Biden is currently on 264, and Nevada would get him to the all-important 270.

Alaska

How many votes are still to be counted? 191,000 (50% of total votes cast)

Who is ahead as it stands? President Trump looks on course to win in Alaska with a lead of 54,610. This is not a huge surprise given that the northern-most state has returned votes for Republican candidates in ten consecutive elections.

What’s on offer here? Three Electoral College votes go to the winner of the largest state by land mass. Although only half the vote has so far been counted it’s pretty much a banker for Trump, but by the time it is confirmed it could be too late.
