Liverpool and Egypt to miss Mo Salah in important fixtures
After testing positive for covid-19, Liverpool will be missing their Egyptian winger during important Premier League and Champions League games.
Liverpool's Egyptian star Mohamed Salah is set to miss some key fixtures for Jürgen Klopp's side and his national team after he tested positive for covid-19 while on international duty.
The Egyptian Football Association announced yesterday that tests conducted on the Egypt squad had revealed that Salah tested positive for covid-19, adding the player is asymptomatic and has already started the isolation process. People who have recently been in close contact with Egypt players were advised to isolate themselves as well.
Salah is set to miss Liverpool's Premier League clash against Leicester City next week in addition to the Champions League fixture against Atalanta a few days later. In addition, the Egypt forward will miss the AFCON qualifying double-header against Togo.
Salah subject to scathing criticism in England
Before reporting for international duty, Mo Salah attended his brother Nasr’s wedding in Cairo. He also attended a party at the Egyptian FA in his honour and has come into contact with lots of people since his arrival in the country. #awlfc [@_pauljoyce] pic.twitter.com/VQSylCJfPU— Anfield Watch (@AnfieldWatch) November 13, 2020
The media in England took a dig at the Liverpool winger after videos and pictures showing Salah attending various events during his stay in Egypt went viral on the internet. The player was pictured at his brother's wedding, where social distancing and health protocol measures were completely abandoned.
The English media described Salah's behavior as irresponsible and ill-timed as the Liverpool squad is already struggling with several injuries. Klopp will now have to contend without another key player during important upcoming fixtures.
