Brazil cruise to 4 wins from four as Cavani sees straight red

Uruguay-Brazil: live

FT in Montevideo and Brazil claim three points with a reasonably comfortable win with a dominant second half performance.

93

Darwin Nuñez fires a ball across the face of the Brazil goal and the men in yellow clear for a corner.

Douglas Luiz off / Guimaraes on (BRA)

Everton off / Paqueta on

4 minutes of time will be added on.

90

Last minute of the 90 as the clock ticks down. Brazil set to make it 4/4 as they march towards a place at Qatar 2022.

88

A placid evening for Ederson in the Brazil goal with the Man City stopper a virtual spectator in this second half.

Brazil's game management in the second period has been excellent as they have the game in the palm of their hand.

Paraguay 2-2 Bolivia in the other game. Peru v Argentina is the final fixture of the 4th matchday and has just kicked-off in Lima.

March 30th also sees the 'Clasico' of South American football as Brazil face Argentina.

80

Next up for Uruguay is an away trip to Argentina in March, a game they will have to play without Edinson Cavani for the contest set to be staged in Santiago del Estero.

Quick and incisive from VAR on both counts, the way fans want to see the VAR procedure to operate.

Caceres the guilty player. VAR gets it right once again.

Offside the final call.

VAR will now review the passage of play.

Goooooooool but no.... the flag is up for offside. J. rodriguez carded for complaining and VAR to be consulted.

75

So an uphill struggle for 'La Celeste" got that bit tougher as they now have to face Brazil with just ten men. 15' remain for the home side to pull one back at least but the second half has seen a major drop-off in form from Tabarez's men.

Confirmed, the match official confirms that Cavani is off, straight red for the Man United player and fine play from the VAR team for a great call. Cavani will now miss the game vs Argentina in March.

Possible red for the United striker ?

The referee heads to VAR... was it the Cavani incident ?

Rodriguez (J) on for Uruguay with De la Cruz making way

Richarlison off - Everton on (BRA) change

Uruguay reverting to long balls now which are easy to deal with for the Seleçâo. Cavani carded for a trip on Richarlison

Nandez carded too for a rash challenge

63

The second Brazil goal really seems to have zapped the energy and belief from the home side. Brazil looking very comfortable with Cavani and Nuñez creating little or no danger.

61

Possession: 45-55 (%) URU-BRA

60

Arambarri and Rodriguez on / Betancur and Torreira make way (URU change)

Caceres fouls Richarlison and earns a yellow for his action

Card for Richarlison as he fouls De la Cruz.

58

Brazil with four games played in this qualifying stage ...just 2 goals conceded by Tite's men !

54

Uruguay really need to find a foothold in the game and Tabarez need to shuffle his deck, the problem is the limited options available to the vegteran coach.

Gimenez carded for a trip on Gabriel Jesus and carded for his effort

Gabriel Jesus has a pop from distance but rifles the ball high and wide.

All set for the second half. It's the men in sky blue who get the action underway.

Brazil ahead here in Montevideo with a masterclass of 100% efficiency from the Seleçâo with two goals from their two chances. Tough on Uruguay who have been the brighter side after an initial spurt from the visitors and far from deserve to be two goals behind.

HT in Montevideo and Brazil lead 0-2

Douglas Luiz carded for a trip on De la Cruz

Perhaps an excessive lead for the visitors as the Everton striker nods downwards and the ball nestles in the corner of the Uruguay net.

Gooooooooooo. Brazil go two up as Richarlison doubles the lead

42

Brazil seem happy to take a step back and invite pressure from the home side.

41

Into the final five minutes of the half we go as Uruguay seem to have overcome the setback and move the ball around as they look to strike back.

40

Very hard on Tabarez's side after enjoying the better of the game (bar the first ten minutes). Apart from the Nuñez crossbar effort it's true that they've troubled Ederson in the Brazil goal.

Goooooooool Brazil go ahead as Arthur shoots and the ball takes a deflection and goes in. Gimenez was the unfortunate home player.

A review of the De la Cruz incident shows that Mr. Tobar made the correct call with little contact between both players.

30

De la Cruz falls in the area after a tussle with Marquinhos but nothing going for the Chilean match official as he waves play on.

28

It's been roughly 15 minutes or so since Brazil graced the Uruguay penalty box as the bulk of the play is concentrated in the centre of the park or inside the Brazil half.

23

Uruguay have clawed their way back into the action after an initial bright flurry from Tite's side. The home side have created more in the past 5/10 minutes despite Brazil still dominating matters in terms of possession.

19

Great fight from Cavani as he falls over in the box but stills manage to find a colleague and win a corner for La Celeste.

17

Possession after 15': URU 45/55 BRA (%)

16

The initial high tempo has dropped back somewhat after a frenetic opening 10' or so.

Paraguay v Bolivia is also underway with a similar kick-off as our game here, 0-0 currently in Asuncion too.

11

Bright start from both sides with the game being played at a high tempo. Brazil in charge possession-wise as the men in sky blue look to striker on the break as Cavani goes close.

Darwin Nuñez rifles the ball off the Brazil bar, great effort from the Benfica man.

Three Atletico Madrid on the pitch tonight with Brazil's Lodi and José Giménez & Torreira from Uruguay. Would have been four had Suarez played.

Campaña called into action saving the home side as Brazil move the ball around with Tabarez's side on the back foot.

2001 was the last time when Uruguay overcame Brazil as both sides were involved in the Korea/Japan World Cup.

We're underway.... Uruguay against table topping Brazil.

A minutes silence being held for all the victims of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tonight's match official hails from Chile ...Roberto Tobar and there is VAR in these qualifiers.

National anthems over, time for the action with kick-off moments away.

The teams take to the pitch at the empty Estadio Centenario with approximately 50 digantaries in the VIP section from the respective federations.

Tonight's game will be another 'behind closed doors' affair as a preventative measure against the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the South American nation.

The last competitive game between both nations was in 2017 where Brazil romped to a 1-4 over "La Celeste" in the Uruguayan capital in the Russia 2018 qualifying campain.

The Suarez blow to Uruguay comes after injury issues prior to the qualifiers with Sebastian Coates, Martin Silva, Ronald Araujo, Federico Valverde and Maxi Gomez are unavailable for selection.
