Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos reach agreement in principle
According to Manu Carreño on Spanish programme El Larguero, the negotiation for the captain's latest signature is being handled directly by Florentino Pérez.
It seems that the negotiation over Sergio Ramos’ new Real Madrid contract is on the verge of being resolved, despite rumours of potentially lucrative deals with the likes of PSG and Manchester United. As per Manu Carreño from Spanish programme El Larguero, there is an agreement in principle for the 34-year-old to renew for two further seasons at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Ramos’ Madrid deal edges closer
The only element said to be outstanding is a missing is a small factor in the finances, but the negotiation is being undertaken directly with the defender by club president, Florentino Pérez. Ramos’ brother, who is his agent, has been left out of the dealings, and the expectations that the agreement is announced before the end of the calendar year.

By doing this, Los Blancos breaks its unwritten rule of not extending a contract of a player over the age of 30 by more than one year at a time. The only other exception to this was the final renewal by Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed for three additional years at the age of 31. Once this deal is completed - assuming not unexpected complications - Ramos would end his career at Real Madrid in 2023, at the age of 37.
By reaching this agreement, the Spaniard will fulfil his desire to retire from the game at the top with Real Madrid. His 16 years of service to date, latterly as captain, has earned him these extra campaigns, where he will be able to go on and break even more records. His honours currently include 22 titles: 4 Champions Leagues, 4 Club World Cups, 3 European Super Cups, 5 LaLigas, 2 Copas del Rey and 4 Spanish Super Cups. He is fourth in the list of all-time appearances for Los Blancos on 660, sitting behind Manolo Sanchís (710), Iker Casillas (725) and Raúl (741).
Real Madrid news:
Many would agree that his legendary status at the club is already assured, but with two more seasons ahead of him, the question is what else he can do to solidify that. And being part of the inauguration of the new Santiago Bernabéu must have been on his mind.
