Spanish Super Cup 2021 draw: live

Many thanks for your company in this 2021 men's and women's Spanish Super Cup draw procedure with a little bit of the Spanish FA general assembly for starters....

..and a quick 'at a glance' look at recent R.Madrid-Athletic clashes

A quick look with SofaScore stats at recent games between R.Sociedad and FC Barcelona

so there we have the pairings for the 2021 Spanish Super Cup

and Barça will face R.Sociedad in Cordoba (Jan 13)

Real Madrid will play Athletic in Malaga (Jan 14)

First name out today is ..... FC Barcelona....

Here we go..... Madrid and Barcelona cannot be paired in the semi-final

Cordoba, Malaga and Seville as expected the three venues with the final at the Estadio Olimpico in Seville

...time for the men's Super Cup draw and confirmation that all games will be staged in Andalusia.

FCB

Despite lying third at present, FC Barcelona Fem have yet to lose in their eight games... have bagged 45 goals in those games and just conceded one solitary goal !

A Barcelona-Levante final I'd say... at present FC Barcelona Fem. are light years ahead of the pack in terms of women's football and a casual glance at the current league table reveals as much

Atleti and Barça meet again as they did in Salamanca.

The semi-finals will be staged in Almeria

Levante UD- EDF Logroño (Jan 12)

At. Madrid-FC Barcelona (Jan 13)

First draw will see the semi-final pairings for the Women's Super Cup: Barça, At. Madrid, Levante and Logroño the four sides in the pot.

Both men's and women's competitions will be staged in parallel.

First up the women's Super Cup will be staged in Jan. 2021 with the final on 16 Jan. and held at various grounds in Andalusia.

Ok, the info we all wanted ... draws , venues etc....

Draw time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

0 regional federations are anxious to ask any questions and we now advance to the next part of the assembly.

Rubiales now on the Spanish Super Cup and the impact of the deal with Saudi Arabia on staging the competition in the Gulf nation. The initial deal with SA was three years and Rubiales has yet to confirm that the competition will not be staged in Saudi but promises to ensure that the income from the competition will make its way through to regional federations.

The Spanish FA representative claims that the request should be pursued as both UEFA & FIFA should only recognise established nations.

Interesting one ....The Spanish FA not happy with the fact that the Basque Football Federation has written to UEFA/FIFA requesting international recognition for a Basque Country national side. The Spanish FA manifest that they are unhappy with this initiative and feel that the time is not right for such a push.

Just to let you know that the assembly members (basically the various regional federations) are voting on rather dull procedural issues.... and all votes are going through by unanimous approval....at the moment.

Ok, we're back with Rubiales and the general assembly is now officially underway (the draws form part of this assembly) and we hope that the assembly is indeed a swift affair.... votes over and down to the business of the draws. The pots and advertising for both men's and women's Super Cups are on the stage.

The Spanish FA don't realise that when it comes to the act of pulling plastic balls from a glass bowl, less is more....football fans want to know the pairings and care for little of what vice-president of 'X' club has to say in the middle of the draw process.

The Spanish FA are possibly the biggest culprits when it comes to 'live draw' efficiency and could take a leaf out of UEFA's book.  Gone are the days when we'd be 'live in Nyon' for marathon sessions. UEFA draws are now: Pedro Pinto introduction and greeting, review of previous rounds action with goal footage, UEFA draw specialist and walking football enciclopedia Giorgio Marchetti, introduction of two played you vaguely remember from the 90s and bang .... the draw.....

Don't go away..... despite Rubiales having left his desk and some horrid euro-pop blaring out, we're hanging in here and despite having lived here for more than 15 years, still surprised by the way that Spanish football works at time at governance levels.....

The joys of online video conferencing !!!! Given that not enough regional FA members are online, Rubiales has decreed that proceedings will be pushed back to 12:45 CET (8 mins away or so)....

Luis Rubiales opens the meeting and confirms that we will indeed have some draw action as part of his intro and welcome speech.

We're in the 'waiting room' at the Spanish FA's general assembly and just waiting for the technicians to do their magic and open the access. There may be just a little 'thumb twiddling' this morning before we get the draw action that we're looking forward to.

It's anticipated that the Spanish FA will reveal all match venues for both men's and women's finals during this morning's proceedings.

Sala

Last year's women's Final Four competition was staged in Salamanca's Estadio Helmantico with FC Barcelona overcoming Real Sociedad in a very one sided final.

Super Cup 2021 venues

At present, there is no official confirmation from the Spanish FA relating to venues but it's certainly common knowledge that the competition will not take place in Saudi Arabia. As to where the three games will be staged, well connected speculation suggests, Málaga and Córdoba for the semi-finals with the 17 January final to go ahead at La Cartuja in Seville.

Both men's and women's Super Cup trophies on display at the RFEF HQ this morning

The start time for proceedings is 12:30 CET this morning, but ahead of the draw, president of the Spanish FA Luis Rubiales is expected to deliver a 'state of the nation' overview speech.

Super Cup 2021 match dates

The dates for the semi-finals of the Super Cup are: 13 & 14 January with the final set to be staged on Sunday 17 January.

RM

Last year we saw the 2020 Super Cup Final Four staged in Saudi Arabia and the contract between the Spanish FA and the Arab nation was for three years bit the January Super Cup is set to take place on Spanish soil.

Obviously the 2019/20 Copa del Rey final remains unplayed to date with a tentative date of 4 April being suggested with the game set to take place in Sevilla's La Cartuja stadium. Both clubs maintain that they only want the game to proceed with the presence of supporters and consequently everything will depend on the situation with the coronavirus pandemic come March/April.

The criteria for selecting the participating sides for the men's Super Cup is the Copa del Rey (19/20) finalists which are both Basque sides along with first and second placed sides in the 2019/20 LaLiga season (Madrid and Barça).

As part of the draw ceremony this morning will also discover the Final Four draw for the Women's Super Cup with: FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Levante UD and EDF Logroño the participating teams.

The coverage from the RFEF (Spanish FA) headquarters gets underway at 12:30 but we'll be building up to the draw in that time ahead of discovering the match-ups

Hello and welcome to our live coverage as we discover the pairings for the 2021 Spanish Super Cup Final 4 draw with FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Real sociedad and Athletic Club the participants.
