Club América parts ways with Miguel Herrera

The coach failed to lift a title with Club América this season and the bosses decided it best to find a new manager for the 2021 Guardianes tournament.

Estados UnidosUpdate:
Club América parts ways with Miguel Herrera

Miguel Herrera's second spill in charge at Club América has come to an end after the club failed to win the Liga MX title and the Concacaf Champions League. América lost both legs of the semifinals against Chivas in the 2020 Guardianes tournament playoffs and they were defeated by a 10-man LAFC in the semifinal of the Concacaf Champions League.

América bosses analyzed the situation and decided it was best to part ways with Herrera. They have started scouring the market for a replacement ahead of the 2021 Guardianes tournament. Herrera did his position no favours after getting into a fight with LAFC assistant coach Ante Rozov at halftime during the 3-1 defeat at Los Angeles FC on Saturday night.

Club America's statement

“We want to thank Miguel Herrera for the job he has done in Club América, however, the results that have been obtained lately and his attitude during the game against LAFC, do not meet the greatness of the institution,” read the statement.

Herrera started his second stint at Club América in 2017, winning the 2018 Apertura title and the 2019 Copa MX. During his first tenure, Herrera led the team to the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2013 Clausura title.

Changes at Club América

The bosses, led by general manager Santiago Baños, are ready to restructure the roster for next season. It has already been confirmed that Paul Aguilar will leave the club after nine years. The other players that are on their way out are: Emanuel Aguilera, Santiago Cáseres, Roger Martínez, Andrés Ibargüen, Luis Reyes and Rubén González.

Once those players leave, the club will look to bring in new faces ahead of the 2021 Guardianes tournament. The first signing prior to the team's participation in the 2020 Concacaf Champions League was Mauro Laínez and it has also been confirmed that Nico Castillo, who has been sidelined with a serious injury, will rejoin the team for next season.
