Valladolid vs Barcelona: how and where to watch - times, TV, online

It’s Ronaldo vs Ronald as Valladolid host Barcelona in LaLiga on Tuesday night. The former Camp Nou stars, who missed out on being teammates by a single season, have very different objectives and resources but both the legendary Brazil striker and Barcelona manager Koeman are under considerable pressure going into Tuesday’s game, which will be broadcast live on Fanatiz in the US.

Valladolid vs Barcelona: LaLiga preview

There had been rumblings of discontent on the wind around the José Zorrilla earlier this season with Valladolid struggling for results. Ronaldo, who bought a majority stake in La Pucela in 2018, was facing the first crisis of his ownership after the team finished comfortably in 13th last season. Valladolid manager Sergio González has been Ronaldo’s first team boss for the entirety of the Brazilian’s tenure and the club has never looked in genuine danger of relegation, finishing 16th in the first season of the partnership.

Valladolid are not that badly off this campaign despite sitting in 18th: La Pucela are as far off the bottom as they are from Athletic in 10th, with just three points separating nine teams in the lower reaches of the standings. A run of three wins and two draws in their last six games has pulled Valladolid off the basement and there are at least two teams with shorter odds of the drop than Sergio’s side, Huesca and Osasuna.

That said, Valladolid fans will be happier when there is some daylight between their side and the trap door and emulating 2013-14’s surprise 1-0 win over Tuesday’s visitors would be a solid step away from danger. Since that victory and a spell in Segunda, three of the last four Liga meetings between the sides have ended 1-0, just not the right way around from Valladolid’s point of view.

Koeman under the microscope

Barcelona have not had it all their own way this season, of course. Koeman’s side have clawed their way into the top five after one of their worst starts ever to a Liga campaign but a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou against Valencia halted a mini-revival. That it was kick-started by a 1-0 victory over Levante at home suggests all is far from well in Can Barça and due to the vagaries of the schedule this will be Barça’s first away game since 5 December – a 2-1 defeat at Cádiz. Their previous road trip was a 1-0 loss at Atlético and Koeman has not overseen a victory away from home since 1 October at Celta.

That remains Barça’s sole victory outside Camp Nou in LaLiga this season and the headlines will not be kind on the Dutchman if he comes back from the José Zorrilla empty-handed.
