Liverpool vs Manchester United: Klopp says Utd cannot be underdogs

Jurgen Klopp is under no illusions about Sunday’s top of the table clash between his Liverpool side and visitors Manchester United, who have roared to pole position in the Premier League thanks to an 11-game unbeaten streak, helped of course by Liverpool dropping more points in 17 games than they have in either of the last two seasons.

Klopp: "Now they are top of the table"

Klopp spoke to the media ahead of the game, which kicks off at Anfield on Sunday at 16:30 GMT, and said Manchester United “cannot be underdogs”, because they have “always had good teams, always great players, really good coaches, and now they top of the table.”

That said, the 53-year-old German was in no way putting his own side down: “We play at home and don’t see ourselves as outsiders or whatever just because they are now ahead of us. It’s an open game, it was always an open game.”

Manchester United are winless in their last four Premier League games against Liverpool, but one thing in their favour is their away form - in fact their last loss on the road in domestic competition came at Anfield, nearly a year ago.

Klopp admitted that Bruno Fernandes was a “good signing” for Liverpool’s rivals, “unfortunately”. “He is a very influential player for United obviously, involved in a lot of things,” said Klopp.

No matter the positions of the two teams in the table, one thing Klopp is convinced of: "It's a massive game."
