Former Houston Astros general manager looking to buy a Liga MX club

Jeff Luhnow was the Houston Astros general manager, but during the 2020 Major League Soccer season he was fired due to his involvement in the team’s electronic sign-stealing scandal. Luhnow also worked alongside the creators of the Netflix show “Club de Cuervos” and now he is interested in buying a franchise in Mexico.

The Athletic first reported that Luhnow was first interested in buying a franchise in Major League Soccer, but now he is looking to acquire a Liga MX team. The former Astros GM learned that it is less expensive to buy a top flight club in Mexico - and he was born and raised in Mexico City.

Another reason he has turned his eye to the Liga MX is because he learned how things work due to his involvement with the show “Club de Cuervos.” Luhnow was also extremely successful during his time in Houston where he won the World Series in 2017.

It is not known which team or teams he is interested in buying in the Liga MX, but it is known that the valuation of a top flight club in the United States is usually 10 times that of its annual revenue. A team in Mexico however tends to be valued at around what they bring in in annual revenue.
