Atlanta United will be the only team in MLS with a third kit

Major League Soccer clubs only use two kits during each season, but for the first time since 2016 one team will have three for the upcoming campaign.

Estados UnidosUpdate:
Atlanta United will be the only team in MLS with a third kit

Atlanta United will enter their fourth year in Major League Soccer in the 2021 season and they will be the only team to use three different strips. For many years the clubs released a home and away kit prior to the beginning of each season, but the ‘Five Stripe’ confirmed that they will use a third kit.

Each year MLS fans have complained about the kits that each club releases ahead of a new season because they are all similar looking. The reason is that all the uniforms are identical and they don’t offer a variety of styles among each team. The majority are either black or white and there is not a variety in colors.

Atlanta United breaking the mould

Adidas is the official sponsor for Major League Soccer and in 2016 they decided to only make two sets of kits for each team because sales were not high enough to produce a third one. Atlanta United decided to change things for the 2021 MLS season and have announced a third kit for the upcoming campaign in order to please their fans.

The Athletic first reported the news about the ‘Five Stripes’ being the only franchise in Major League Soccer to have a third kit for the 2021 MLS season. “We are pleased to announce that for the first time since 2016 a team in MLS will have a third kit for the upcoming season. Atlanta United has been working with Adidas since 2018 in the design of the new uniform and we are eager to release it as soon as possible,” said Darren Eales to The Athletic.
