Super Bowl: getting a ticket is not easy

The Raymond James Stadium has a capacity for 65,000 fans and for special events it can be expanded to 75,000 seats. For Super Bowl LV, the NFL announced that only 14,500 tickets would be made available for fans that wished to attend the game and these packages well into the thousands of dollars.

The league also confirmed that 7,500 vaccinated health care workers would be able to attend the game for free as a thank you for their work throughout the coronavirus pandemic. At first, the NFL was offering four ticket packages for Super Bowl LV which included the Touchdown Club ($6,750), 55 Live ($8,000), Champions ($10,000) and On The Fifty (no price was listed).

"Our local healthcare workers have worked around the clock to ensure the health and safety of our community and I cannot think of a better way to honor them than with the eyes of the world on our hometown for Super Bowl LV," said Jane Castor, the mayor for the City of Tampa.

"Our country has endured so much over the last year and we can't lose sight of those who worked day in and day out to keep us safe. Thank you to the NFL for helping make this happen," she added.

In response, John Couris, President and CEO of Tampa General Hospital said:

"We applaud the NFL for honoring health care workers and promoting vaccine acceptance around Super Bowl LV. We are pleased to support their planning efforts to create a safe and enjoyable event for all attendees, and we look forward to a successful Super Bowl in Tampa Bay."

NFL website and resellers

Things have changed over recent days and people can go on the NFL website to buy tickets that start at $5,950, although depending on the location, the price can rise above $20,000 for two seats together. As it is usual for these big events, there are tickets available on reseller websites such as StubHub, SeatGeek and Vivid Seats.

At the time of writing, these websites had the cheapest tickets ranging from $5,980 to $6,500 and the most expensive seats from $59,000 to $365,148. Yes, you read that last figure correctly! Prices keep going up year-after-year, because for Super Bowl 54 the prices started at $3,488.
