Fans will be able to attend the CONCACAF men's soccer pre-Olympic tournament
Guadalajara, Mexico will be the city that hosts the CONCACAF men’s soccer pre-Olympic tournament, where spots at the Tokyo Games will be up for grabs.
Originally the CONCACAF men’s soccer pre-Olympic tournament was scheduled for the summer of 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic it is now set to start on 18 March 2021 and end on 30 March. Mexico is the current defending champion and the favorite to win it all.
This tournament will determine which men’s under-23 national teams from the North, Central American and Caribbean region will qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. The top two countries will automatically book their ticket for the Olympic football tournament in Japan as the CONCACAF representatives.
Fans will be allowed in the stadiums
Earlier this week it was announced that the Liga MX teams from Guadalajara, Chivas and Atlas have received permission to start the process of allowing fans into their stadiums for the 2021 Guardianes tournament. On Friday both teams submitted their applications to the governor of Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro.
This application will also allow fans to attend the pre-Olympic men’s soccer tournament at the Akron and Jalisco stadiums between 18 and 30 March at a limited capacity. It has not been established the amount of people that will be allowed to attend or the health measures that the stadiums will undergo for this tournament just yet.
