How much money is Canelo Álvarez winning against Avni Yildirim?
Saúl Álvarez guaranteed a purse of at least $20 million for fighting Callum Smith last year, which is less than the $35 million he was making per fight with DAZN.
Tonight Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez will fight against Avni Yildirim in Miami, Florida and he will try to win his 55th fight as a professional boxer to continue his legacy in the sport. This will be Canelo’s third fight in a row since 2020 to defend his titles against obligatory opponents. According to the odds, Yildirim has little-to-no chance to beat the Mexican boxer this Saturday.
“I don’t have to give any explanation for fighting Yildirim. I really don’t have to give any explanation because they’re never gonna be happy with anything. I just fought No. 1 at 168 pounds, Callum Smith, and they’re not happy with that, either. So, I have nothing to say and nothing to explain. I don’t care,” Alvarez told Boxing Scene about the criticism regarding his opponent.
Álvarez is the heavy favorite in tonight's combat against Yildirim and odds are at -5000 for him to win, which means people would have to bet $5,000 to win $100. On the other hand, Yildirim is at +1400, which means people who bet $100 will win $1,400. One of the best bets according to the expertes is to bet a KO from Canelo in rounds 4-6, which is at +162.
What is the purse?
Canelo wants to fight three times this year and Yildirim is the first opponent of the year. For tonight’s fight, he could earn up to $30 million and it is not known yet how much money is guaranteed. This is expected to be the ‘cheapest’ purse of the year for the Mexican fighter, as the next two opponents should bring more money to the table.
