America ponders its own version of European Super League

The European Super League proposal could lead the most powerful teams on the American continent to join forces to create their own Super League.

Estados UnidosUpdate:
America ponders its own version of European Super League

The European Super League could open the door for teams on other continents to join forces and create their own breakaway competition. There are already advanced talks between Major League Soccer and Liga MX about combining their leagues in the near future. However, several players in MLS have been sounded out about the idea and they don’t seem too excited about this possibility.

Carlos Vela was recently asked about Liga MX and MLS joining forces and he said it will be complicated because of the amount of traveling they will have to do if games are played in the United States and Mexico. According to AS Mexico, if the American continent decided to create their own Super League these would be the 20 founding clubs.

Liga MX

Club América, Tigres UANL, Chivas, Pumas and Cruz Azul represent the most powerful teams in Mexican football. But the two teams that stand above all of them are Chivas and América, because they are the most successful and popular teams in the country and are the only clubs never to have been relegated.

MLS

In Major League Soccer Atlanta United and Los Angeles Galaxy would be taken in consideration to join the Super League. The ‘Five Stripes’ are a fairly new team, but they have already won the MLS Cup and they are constantly in the running to win the CONCACAF Champions League. Also they have one of the biggest fan bases in the country.

On the other hand, LA Galaxy is the most successful club in Major League Soccer, with a record of five MLS Cups and one CONCACAF Champions’ Cup title. World Class players like David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have played in the team from California.

Argentine Primera División

Boca Juniors and River Plate are the most popular and successful teams in Argentina. They have 70 league titles between them and are regulars in the latter stages of the Copa Libertadores championship. The other clubs that could be included from Argentina are Independiente and Racing Club.

Brazilian Serie A

São Paulo, Palmeiras, Santos and Corinthians are the most successful teams in Brazil. They would be included in the possible creation of the American Super League. With Palmeiras topping the list, because they are the teams with the most league titles and the reigning Copa Libertadores champions.

Uruguayan Primera División

Nacional de Montevideo and Peñarol are the most successful teams in Uruguay. Nacional has a total of 48 league titles and Peñarol were the first team to win the Copa Libertadores without losing a single game. They are also the only teams in the Uruguayan Primer División to have never been relegated.

The remaining three teams from South America

Millonarios (Colombia), Colo Colo (Chile) and Olimpia (Paraguay) would also be included in the 20 founding fathers if the American continent decided to create a Super League of their own. The idea is that the richest clubs from CONCACAF and CONMEBOL can make themselves richer and provide a better ‘show’ for the fans.
