“I think it’s a lack of respect for the rest of the teams” - Víctor Vázquez on the Super League

Víctor Vázquez entered the youth system of FC Barcelona at the age of 11 and he was part of the famous ‘87 team that impressed everyone at La Masia. The midfielder from Spain played alongside Gerard Piqué, Lionel Messi and Cesc Fábregas and he was considered one of the best players in that generation.

He made his professional debut on 12 April, 2008 coming in as a substitute in a 2-2 LaLiga draw against Recreativo de Huelva. He spent two full seasons with FC Barcelona and then he went on to play to Club Brugge (2011-2015), Cruz Azul (2016), Toronto FC (2017-2018), Al-Arabi (2019), Umm Salal (2019-2020), Eupen (2020) and last month he signed a one-year-deal with the LA Galaxy.

Against the European Super League

The 34-year-old has played for big and small clubs throughout his professional career as a football player and when he was asked about his opinion on the creation of the European Super League (ESL) he said it was a ‘lack of respect for the rest of the teams.’

I don’t like to talk about this kind of subjects, but if I have to give my opinion I think it is a lack of respect for the clubs that were not included in the ESL. It is tough to put a player in that situation because it is not up to them to play it or not. If their club decides to play in the ESL then they have to play and I think this is not good for football. It is only good for the teams involved,” he said during Wednesday’s press conference.

Víctor Vázquez made his debut with the Los Angeles Galaxy in the team's 3-2 victory against Inter Miami CF and he was involved in the second goal that Javier Hernández scored in the 73rd minute to tie the game 2-2. The team with the most MLS Cups (five) will have their home opener this Sunday against the NY Red Bulls for week 2 of the 2021 MLS regular season.
