The Mexico Football Federation’s main priority is the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as it is the first upcoming tournament for the national team. The coach of Mexico's youth national team, Jaime Lozano, has a preliminary roster of 50 players for the tournament this summer and the plan is that everyone in that group will receive the covid-19 vaccine regardless if they make it to the final roster or not.

There are several players in Europe that are under the age of 23 who can participate in the Olympics, so the federation is talking to their respective clubs so they can play in Tokyo this summer. The bosses in Mexico are already talking to Ajax, Real Betis and KRC Genk hoping to free up Edson Álvarez, Diego Lainez and Gerardo Arteaga play in the Olympic tournament.

The priority of them [Álvarez, Lainez and Arteaga] is to play in the Olympics with the national team this summer. So we are negotiating with their respective clubs to let them play in the Tokyo Olympics and I think we will have no problem to have them in the final roster,” said Jaime Lozano during an interview with ESPN.

Lozano can only include three players above the age of 23 for the Olympic tournament and he is still working on the final list. But during the interview with ESPN, he said that he wants experienced players in each position. El Tri will make their debut on 22 July against France in Group A.
