At what age did Floyd Mayweather retire from professional boxing?

It was 2007 when Mayweather first proposed to retired from professional boxing. The announcement came right after his fight with Oscar De La Hoya, where he beat the Mexican-American in a split decision. But that was short-lived, and looking back, it suggests the start of a brilliant ploy to generate free marketing.

However, Mayweather didn't follow through with his retirement plans, and just two months later, he began training to fight Ricky Hatton. Mayweather beat the Brit at the end of 2007 and moved to 39-0 with a late TKO.

A few months later, he would announce his first official retirement announcement. "I am sorry I have to leave the sport at this time, knowing I still have my God-given abilities to succeed and future multi-million dollar paydays ahead. There comes a time when money doesn't matter. I just can't do it anymore. I have found a peace with my decision that I have not felt in a long time."

Coming out of retirement

The American boxer would come out of retirement back in 2009 and fought Juan Manuel Marquez; he would follow this bout with fights against Miguel Cotto, Canelo Alvarez, and Marcos Maidana.

In 2015 Mayweather accepted the challenge to fight Manny Pacquiao in "the fight of the century." Experts and fans believed that he would retire after this fight, but the official announcement came after he fought Andre Berto, which he beat pretty easily.

This retirement spell only lasted until he decided to fight Conor McGregor, this would be an official fight, but it was against a UCF fighter. In addition, this fight gave Mayweather the chance to surpass Rocky Marciano's record of 49-0.

He beat the Irishman in a TKO and officially retired at the age of 41.

Exhibition bouts

Mayweather lately has fought only on exhibition bout, first against Tenshin Nasukawa and his latest one to Logan Paul, YouTuber turned boxer.

The Mayweather vs. Paul fight will take place on June 6th in Miami.
