Daryl Dike’s Premier League dream is over, for now

Swansea City defeated Barnsley FC on a 2-1 aggregate to secure their place in the Championship play-off final and a game away from a Premier League return.

Estados UnidosUpdate:
Daryl Dike’s Premier League dream is over, for now

Daryl Dike’s future with Barnsley FC depended on the team’s return to the Premier League for the next season. The United States striker arrived on loan to the Tykes on 1 February and since making his debut in the Championship he became one of the best players in the English second tier league.

Premier League dream comes to an end

Unfortunately for Barnsley FC the dream to play in the Premier League next season came to an end on Saturday. Swansea City defeated the Tykes on a 2-1 aggregate and now they are one game away from returning to England’s top tier league.

Swansea secured their ticket to the Championship play-off final where they will face Brentford at Wembley stadium. The ‘Swans’ were relegated to the Championship after the end of the 2018 Premier League season and since then they have been fighting to return, now they are one game away.

Daryl Dike’s future in the air

Barnsley FC wanted to make Dike’s move permanent, but Orlando City had placed a $20 million price tag on him. The American striker scored 9 goals in 19 league appearances and his performances awoke the interest of teams like Everton and Chelsea, but the Tykes were first in line to make the move permanent.

Barnsley was clear to Orlando City SC that they would only make the move permanente if they secured a spot in the Premier League for the next season. Since that dream is over, Dike is set to return to Orlando and rejoin the team for the 2021 MLS regular season. Since there is interest from several clubs in England, he could leave Major League Soccer during the summer transfer window.
