Suns 100 vs 92 Lakers: scores, summary, stats, highlights | NBA Playoffs
The Phoenix Suns are heading home with the series tied at 2-2 after a 100-92 victory in Los Angeles. Chris Paul looked back to his best as the Lakers were dealt a blow after Anthony Davis missed the second half with a groin injury.
The Suns used a 15-4 third quarter run to take command of the second half, after an opening two quarters that saw the LA lead stretch to 11.
Paul back to best after shoulder injury
Apart from the brief double digit lead for the Lakers in the second quarter, the Suns played the Lakers tight in the opening stanza. Chris Paul’s shoulder was evidently better, as his ball control and jump shot looked true from the start.
Groin injury kept Davis out for the seond half
Paul’s shoulder contusion, which he suffered in Game 1, has been the talk of the series, but unfortunately for the Lakers the focus may shift to Anthony Davis after going down with a groin injury right before half-time. Davis did not return, and the word out of the Lakers locker room was a strained left groin.
Suns sharing the scoring
There were six Suns in double figures, each of the starting five and Cameron Payne. Chris Paul led the way with 18 points, and nine assists as he put Phoenix fans minds at ease tonight by showing the shoulder injury is slowly fading. Jae Crowder and Devin Booker had 17.
Booker dropped 15 in the opening half, but let Chris Paul take the mic in to close the game. It will comfort the Suns top scorer to know he doesn’t have to come out every night and put up 30+ points to beat the Lakers. If Chris Paul plays like he did tonight the rest of the series Phoenix will be a tough team to beat in two of the next three games.
James not enough for Lakers late comeback bid
LeBron James dropped 25 points, 12 rebounds and six assists to led the Lakers, but in moments where you would expect James to take over in the absence of Davis one of the greatest of all time was missing. James scored 14 in the second half, but went quiet while the Suns piled up a 16 point third quarter lead.
The series heads back to Phoenix with the tide turning in favor of the Suns. Anthony Davis will be put through tests over the course of the next few days, as we head in to Game 5 with the series tied at 2-2.
