Miguel Layún returns to Club América
The 32-year-old defender returns to the team from the capital of Mexico after seven years, where he won several titles before leaving for Europe.
The bosses at Monterrey decided not to renew Miguel Layún's contract so as a free agent it was confirmed that he would return to Club América for the upcoming tournament. It was reported that Layún had several offers on the table from various MLS clubs, but he decided to join the club where he succeeded the most and will continue playing in the Liga MX.
Layún comes back to América after seven years
Miguel Layún made his professional debut with Veracruz in 2006 and three years later he joined Serie A side Atalanta BC. He became the first Mexican player to play in Italy's top tier league, but he only made two appearances coming on as a substitute.
In 2010 he returned to the Liga MX and joined Club América where he would reach his peak as a footballer. Layún won two league titles with the Eagles (2013 Clausura and 2014 Apertura) before returning to European football.
The former Mexico international then went on and played for Granada (2014), Watford F.C. (2015), Porto F.C. (2015 to 2018), Sevilla (2018), Villarreal (2018/19) and after that he returned to the Liga MX and joined CF Monterrey. Layún spent two seasons with Rayados where he won the 2019 Apertura tournament, the Copa MX and the CONCACAF Champions League.
