Arrests made over CONCACAF Nations League final incidents

The United States men’s national team defeated Mexico 3-2 in the CONCACAF Nations League final on Sunday night. Christian Pulisic scored the winning goal via a penalty kick in the second half of extra-time, which sparked huge celebrations by the USMNT players close to the fan area.

During the celebrations of Pulisic’s goal fans started throwing projectiles at the players and Gio Reyna was hit on the head by a bottle at Empower Field at Mile High. The trouble didn’t stop there, because fans kept throwing bottles on to the pitch and another one hit Mexican striker Henry Martín.

Arrests have been made

On Tuesday, the Denver police confirmed that four people were arrested for trespassing and another for throwing projectiles during the USMNT's goal celebrations. The police used the video footage from the broadcast and the stadium to locate the fans involved in this incident. It was also confirmed that the fan arrested for throwing projectiles has been banned from attending any future events at the stadium.

While the night showcased Denver as a world-class soccer destination and Empower Field at Mile High as a premiere sports and entertainment venue, the actions of a few patrons unfortunately took away from a memorable event,” the stadium management company said in a statement.

The fans in the stands at Empower Field at Mile High where chanting homophobic slurs, which caused the game to stop for a few minutes during the second half of extra-time. It was also confirmed that several fans were ejected from the game and the stadium management company released a statement regarding the matter.

“Empower Field at Mile High is fully committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants and fans,” the stadium management company said. “Our fan code of conduct will continue to be strictly enforced to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
