Roughly three quarters of American adults plan to celebrate Father’s Day this year. The celebration, started in 1910, grew in popularity quickly but took over six decades to become nationally recognized. It finally became a national holiday in 1972 after President Richard Nixon declared the third Sunday in June a time to reflect on the importance of fatherhood.

Americans are celebrating their dads on 19 June this year. According to the National Retail Federation, despite the higher cost of just about everything consumers will spend around 20 billion dollars for Father’s Day, an average of $172 per person, slightly less than last year’s record.

What will fathers be getting in 2022 from their family?

The gifts that those wishing to treat their father to a special day “reflect the sentimental nature of the holiday,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said.

Forty-four percent are planning to get a gift “that is unique or different” this year. Meanwhile thirty-seven percent want to extend the longevity of the celebration with “a gift that creates a special memory” by gifting a subscription box service. Another twenty-five percent will get their dad tickets to a concert or sporting event for Father’s Day 2022.

Here is a list of the ten most popular gifts for dads:

  • Greeting Cards
  • Clothing
  • Special Outing
  • Gift Cards
  • Personal Care
  • Books/CDs
  • Electronics
  • Home Improvement/Gardening Tools
  • Tools or Appliances

Writing a card for that special father

It can be difficult to express just how much someone means to you, and with fathers it seems like we need to go that extra mile. As long as it is from the heart you can’t go wrong. But before you put pen to paper, take a minute to think about his personality to get the creative juices flowing and go from there. You may want to throw in a quote or two.
