Julian Araujo undecided about playing for Mexico or the USMNT

Julian Araujo is one of the young players to watch during the 2021 Major League Soccer regular season with the Los Angeles Galaxy. The 19-year-old defender has been linked to several big clubs in Europe, but his mind is set with the Galaxy this season.

Undecided about his international career

Araujo is one of the many players that has dual citizenship and eventually he has to choose between Mexico or the United States on an international level. The LA Galaxy defender played with the United States youth national team in the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament, who failed to book their ticket to the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

Now the LA Galaxy defender has been included in the United States men’s national team preliminary list that will be participating in the CONCACAF Gold Cup next month. If he makes the final roster and secures playing time with the senior team, he wouldn’t be eligible to play for the Mexican national team in the near future.

Araujo told AS USA a few weeks ago that ‘the doors are not closed for Mexico, yet,’ but there has been no official approach by the Mexican Football Federation. Now according to TUDN, the Mexican-American defender has put the United States as a priority and he would be happy to be included in the final roster for the upcoming tournament.
