Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández misses LA Galaxy’s game due to calf injury

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández suffered a calf injury during warm up and was left out of the starting XI against Sporting KC on Sunday during week 11 of the MLS regular season. Ethan Zubak had to take his place minutes before the game started, forcing the Mexican international to miss his first game of the campaign.

The Galaxy drop points at home

The coach of the Los Angeles Galaxy, Greg Vanney, had to adjust his lineup because Jonathan dos Santos and Efraín Álvarez traveled to Dallas, Texas with the Mexico national team ahead of the start of the Gold Cup. So not having ‘Chicharito,’ the league’s top scorer, was another blow for the Galaxy, who wanted to secure second place in the Western Conference.

The home team was able to maintain the clean sheet until the final minutes of the match. In the 81st minute Johnny Russell scored the game opener and in stoppage time Khiry Shelton found the back of the net to make it 2-0. Sporting KC secured the victory and the three points in their road match against the Galaxy.

With this result Sporting Kansas City took first place in the Western Conference with 26 points, while the LA Galaxy maintained third place with 21. 'Chicharito' will undergo a medical examination to determine how serious his calf injury is and if he will be available for the Galaxy's next game against FC Dallas on 7 July.
