Update:
Ramos speaks after PSG make signing official

It’s official. PSG has confirmed the signing of Sergio Ramos following the Spanish defender’s departure from Real Madrid after 16 seasons at the Bernabéu.

As the 35-year-old’s Madrid contract ended on 30 June, he has arrived in Paris on a free transfer, signing a two-year deal that will keep him at Parcs de Princes until June 2023.

PSG released a statement on its website on Thursday morning, in which Ramos said he was “proud to be part of this ambitious project”.

Ramos becomes the Parisian outfit’s third official signing of the summer after Achraf Hakimi and Gini Wijnaldum. The club has also signed Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, although his signing has yet to be made official.

PSG’s owners will hope that these signings, along with Ramos’ valuable Champions League-winning experience, will serve as a big boost to the club’s quest for its first-ever Champions League title.

Ramos on PSG move

"I am very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain,” said Ramos, who had flown into Paris on Wednesday morning to undergo a medical before his singing was made official.

“This is a big change in my life, a new challenge and it's a day I will never forget. I am very proud to be a part of this ambitious project, to be a part of this squad with so many great players.

“Paris Saint-Germain is a club that has already proven itself at the highest level. I want to continue to grow and improve at Paris and help the team to win as many trophies as possible."

PSG president on Ramo signing

For his part, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi hailed the former Madrid captain as “one of the greatest players of our era.”

“We are delighted to announce that Sergio Ramos has joined us,” said Al-Khelaïfi.

“Sergio is a complete footballer, one of the best defenders in the history of the game. He is a born competitor, a leader and a true professional.

“His vast experience and ambition is in perfect synergy with those of the club. I am proud to see him in a Paris Saint-Germain jersey and I know our supporters will reserve a fantastic welcome for him."

Ramos to wear Number 4

As revealed by a video posted on PSG’s Twitter page this Thursday, Ramos will wear the No. 4  jersey that he has worn throughout his career, meaning the club will have to find a new squad number for 24-year-old German defender, Thilo Kehrer.

Ramos expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to continue wearing the No. 4 jersey that “has accompanied me throughout my life”, adding it will be a “privilege” to do so for “a great club, Paris Saint Germain”
