Gianluca Busio set to become Venezia's second American player
The USMNT player has agreed to terms to join the Serie A side for the upcoming season where he will join American midfielder Tanner Tessman.
Venezia FC gained promotion to Serie A for the 2021/22 season and have looked to Major League Soccer to improve their roster. A few days ago it was confirmed that they reached an agreement with FC Dallas for the transfer of the American midfielder Tanner Tessman and now they are about to complete the transfer of another MLS player.
Two Americans set to play with newly-promoted club
According to multiple reports, Venezia and Sporting Kansas City have reached a deal for 19-year-old USMNT midfielder, Gianluca Busio. Currently, he is with the United States national team participating in the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament, so he will have to wait until the campaign is over to travel to Italy and complete his move.
Busio made his Major League Soccer debut during the 2018 regular season and has shown enormous progress since then. So far this campaign, the USMNT midfielder has scored two goals and given three assists in 13 league appearances.
During the 2021 MLS regular season, Busio has completed 85 percent of his passes, leading Sporting KC in tackles, and is third in total passes and shots. Since he has dual citizenship, it was reported that the Italy national team was interested in giving him an opportunity.
But the United States got there first. Busio made his international debut with the USMNT in the teams 1-0 victory against Haiti on matchday 1 of the Gold Cup campaign. He made his first start in the United States' 6-1 victory against Martinique, playing the full 90 minutes.
