‘Chicharito’ Hernández to miss his sixth consecutive MLS game due to injury

Life without Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández has not been easy for the Los Angeles Galaxy since he suffered a calf injury on 23 June. The team with the most league titles (five) has a record of W1-D1-L3 without the Mexican international. ‘Chicharito’ has scored 10 goals in 10 Major League Soccer games, but he has not been able to help his team on the pitch in the last five games.

Injury report

Besides only winning one of their last five games, the Los Angeles Galaxy remain in third place with 25 points in the Western Conference in Major League Soccer. After suffering a 4-0 road loss against FC Dallas last week, they return home on 31 July to face the Portland Timbers in week 16 of the regular campaign.

Unfortunately, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández will not be available for the game against the Timbers and this will be the sixth consecutive game he has missed in the 2021 MLS regular season. The LA Galaxy boss Greg Vanney confirmed the news during Wednesday’s press conference prior to the game at the Dignity Health Sports Park.

Javier [Hernández] is unlikely to play this week. He has been taking some steps forwards towards reaching full fitness and that is positive. But he is in that weird stage when a player thinks he is ready to come back, he feels some aches and pains. So we are going to follow up with his recovery and we are going to do one last big checkup before we take the next big step for him.”

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández has not been training with the rest of the team since he got injured on 23 June. So before even being considered to play a game, “he needs to return to full contact practice with the rest of the squad and he needs to be comfortable changing directions on the pitch,” added Vanney.
