Los Angeles FC has only been able to add two points in their last three games and they have failed to score more than two goals in 16 games of the 2021 Major League Soccer Regular season. Entering week 16 of the campaign the ‘Black & Gold’ hosted Minnesota United on Wednesday night, where they hoped to earn three points.

Vela on fire in his last four games

Carlos Vela scored his fifth goal of the season in the 40th minute against Minnesota to give LAFC the lead before the break. With this goal the Mexican international is now the team's joint top scorer and he has now scored in four consecutive games since 17 July.

Before the second half started, LAFC was forced to take off center back Jesús Murillo, who was replaced by Raheem Edwards. Four minutes after that substitution, Minnesota's Emanuel Reynoso received a pass from Robin Lod and hit a left-foot shot to beat goalkeeper Tomás Romero to tie the game 1-1.

Minnesota secure very late equalizer

Los Angeles FC scored in the 77th minute when Tristan Blackmon headered the ball home from a corner kick to give his team the 2-1 lead. It seemed that the home team was going to take the three points, but in the 95th minute, Jan Gregus sent a long ball to find Hassani Dotson at the top of the box and he took one touch to pass a defender and with his right foot found the back of the net to make it 2-2.

With the teams sharing the points, Los Angeles FC is now in fifth place of the Western Conference with a record of 6W-5D-5L and a total of 23 points. They will return to action on Wednesday 4 August against Sporting Kansas City for week 17 at the Banc of California stadium.
