South Korea 3-6 Mexico: as it happened

That's it from us for today from the Olympic football tournament. We'll see you for the semi-finals! Thanks for joining!

90+3

And there's the whistle! Mexico go through to the Olympic semi-finals after a comprehensive 6-3 victory!

90+2

Free kick to South Korea in midfield. Mexico will be happy enough with that.

90

Three minutes added... Mexico have a corner and try and keep it there.

90

Goooooooool! Korea pull one back!

89

Substitute Beltrán fancies getting in on the act and unleashes a drive from distance but it was always on the rise.

89

This one is headed to safety though and Mexico have a throw, which they are in no hurry to take.

88

Ochoa again! Another fine save from the América keeper, another South Korea corner...

87

And they'll have another chance as Montes heads behind for a corner.

86

Corner for South Korea but there are a few slumped shoulders among the pink shirts now with a four-goal deficit and five minutes left.

83

Goooooooool! Excellent work from Diego Lainez to tee up fellow sub Eduardo Aguirre. The Santos Laguna forward turns in the area and hammer a low shot past Song to make it six Mexico!

81

Park Ji-soo off, Kim Jae-woo on for the Warriors.

80

Only 10 minutes left for South Korea to find three goals.

78

Eduardo Aguirre on for Mexico as Martín makes way.

76

Ochoa! South Korea win a free kick and substitute Lee has a crack, forcing the veteran keeper into a smart save.

73

Antuna and Córdova the players to make way after a solid afternoon's work.

72

Diego Lainez and Fernando Beltrán come on for Mexico, while South Korea take off Um Won-sang for Lee Kang-in.

70

Play is halted as Won Du-jae clatters into the back of Antuna.

68

Another South Korea attack creates an opening at the far post but Lee is hustled off the ball just as he was shaping to have a crack.

65

South Korea haven't given up on this and launch forward again on the wing but Mexico have tightened up against that tactic and are looking quite comfortable now.

62

Goodness gracious, what a strike from Córdova! The América midfielder picks the ball up on the edge of the area, steadies himself and hammers a lft-footed shot off the underside of the bar! What a goal!

60

Antuna thinks he's clean through but the lino's flag says otherwise.

55

It stands! There was a hint of offside but Martín was just on, practically an inch behind the last defender.

54

Hello... VAR poking its nose in.

53

Goooooooooool! Mexico go 4-2 up! A free kick is whipped into the box and it's Martín who meets it to guide a header past Song!

50

Gooooooooool! Lee! The number 10 reads the flight of a loose ball and hammers a left-footed shot on the half-volley across Ochoa and into the far corner! South Korea back in the game!

48

Won Du-jae finds his way into the book for hauling back Córdova.

47

Kwon Chang-hoon warms Ochoa's gloves with a speculative effort.

46

We're back underway!

The teams are coming out again now and South Korea have plenty of work to do in this half.

Other results

After Spain reached the semi-finals with victory over Ivory Coast they were joined by Brazil, who scraped past Egypt 1-0. Japan are the third side to ensure their spot in the last four after getting past New Zealand 4-2 on penalties.

45+2

A final chance for South Korea from the corner flag... Ochoa palms it to safety though and there's the whistle! Mexico go into the dressing room 3-1 up at half time!

45+1

Two minutes added

45

What a strike from Lee! A left footed fizzer that rattles the bar after the lightest of fingertips from Ochoa!

44

South Korea have a free kick on the edge of the area though...

43

Kang Yoon-sung puts in a decent cross but it's thumped clear as Mexico look to hang on to their lead going into the break.

41

Kim Hak-bum is franticaly chewing his finger on the touchline. His side are creating plenty of chances though.

38

Gooooooooool! Sebastián Córdova makes no mistake, sending the keeper the wrong way and finding the inside of the opposite post! 3-1 to Mexico!

37

Penalty! Kang Yoon-sung is penalized for a shove and Mexico have a chance to make it 3-1 from the spot...

35

Meanwhile Kim Jin-kyu rugby tackles Vladimir Loroña and Mexico are awarded a free kick.

32

Silliness ensues in the area as Jeong Tae-wook appears to look at his feet and sends a Mexico defender to the turf. He gets a yellow for the minimal contact per the rules but a light breeze would have done worse.

29

Gooooooooooool! Romo! And what a strike! The Cruz Azul midfielder cushions the ball with his right and then volleys with his left to make it 2-1! A goal of the tournament contender for sure!

28

Hwang's hands go to his head as he drags an effort wide having pulled the Mexico defence apart. He knows he should have at least given Ochoa something to do there.

25

A lovely, jinking run from goalscorer Lee takes out three defenders but his curled effort is wide of the far post.

23

There's a nasty looking clash in midfield and Park Ji-soo sportingly knocks the ball out. Both players are up and about again though, no harm done.

21

Mexico look to strike back immediately but their attack breaks down as Vega is hustled off the ball for a goal kick.

19

Goooooooooooool! Lee Dong-gyeong! What a corker! The Ulsan Hyundai midfielder juggles the ball onto his left and unleashes an unstoppable shot into the top corner!

17

Ochoa is called into action again to stop a fizzing cross at ankle height. South Korea are enjoying plenty of profit from attacking down Mexico's left at the moment.

15

South Korea look for an early response and almost get a reward at Ochoa's near post, Hwang Ui-jo forcing the keeper into a stop that is eventually hacked clear for a throw.

12

Goooooooooool! Martín! Alexis Vega whips in a glorious ball and Luis Romo nods it back across goal for the América striker to glance it in from close range!

10

It's a great chance for Mexico with Uriel Antuna unmarked on the edge of the area but Song Bum-keun makes an excellent parry to deny the Guadalajara midfielder.

8

Kim is incensed as he feels he was impeded in the area there but the ref is unmoved and gives a free kick the other way.

6

It's a scuffed free kick though and Mexico whack it clear with minimum fuss.

5

They'll have another chance though as Kim Jin-ya is fouled on the far side.

4

It's a nice delivery into the six-yard box but Mexico clear with a thumping header.

2

Free kick to South Korea as Lee Dong-jun is clipped flying down the wing. Decent position as well...

1

We're off! Mexico get the ball rolling, playing in white today, with South Korea sporting a pink strip.

And here we go with the anthems!

The teams are in the tunnel now in Yokohama and we're not far away from kick-off in the fourth Olympic quarter-final.

Spain through to last four

Spain are into their first Olympic semi-final since Sydney 2000 after overcoming Ivory Coast 5-2 AET.

Other games in progress

Spain now look to have secured their place in the semis as La Rojita are 4-2 up against Ivory Coast deep into extra time while in the other games it remains scoreless between Japan and New Zealand (second half) and Brazil and Egypt (first half).

Mexico starting line-up confirmed

Jaime Lozano has named his XI with Henry Martín and Alexis Vega starting up front. Veteran stopper Guillermo Ochoa gets the nod in goal with Betis playmaker Diego Lainez having to make do with a spot on the bench. Luis Romo also starts, meaning Mexico have their three permitted over-age players on from the whistle.

South Korea starting line-up confirmed

Kim has named his side for the quarter-final and there's no start for Lee Kangin.

Spain - Ivory Coast into extra time

Spain looked to be in big trouble there for a minute when Ivory Coast scored late on but a Rafa Mir equalizer deep into stoppage time has taken that game to extra time. In the other quarter currently in play, Japan and New Zealand remains 0-0 at half time.

Alexis Vega is one to watch for Mexico. The 23-year-old Guadalajara forward helped himself to two goals and an assist in the group stage and has already been capped at senior level despite not being among El Tri's quota of over-age players in Japan.

The winner of this game will face the victors of the quarter-final between Brazil and Egypt in the last four.

Gold medal race wide open

Some of the pre-tournament favourites were knocked out in the group stage, leaving the competition open for those that remain. Spain, Japan and Brazil can all be considered favourites in their respective quarters but this one is too close to call.

Mexico were drawn in arguably the toughest of the groups - alongside France, South Africa and Japan - and finished second behind the host nation, scoring eight and conceding three.

The Taegeuk Warriors lost their opening group game against New Zealand but recovered to finish top after scoring 10 in consecutive victories over Honduras and Romania. Kim Hak-bum's side were bronze medalists in London and reached the quarter-finals in Rio.

South Korea are without Tottenham star and talisman Son Heung-min in Japan but that has allowed other players to make their mark and in Lee Kangin and Hwang Uijo they have two potential future stars up front.
