Team USA seem to have fully recovered from their unexpected loss to France in their opening game of the basketball tournament. Gregg Popovich’s men impressed in their last performance, ending Spain’s gold medal hopes for the fifth consecutive time in the Olympics.

Kevin Durant, probably the differential factor for the Americans, scored 29 points in 31 minutes against Sergio Scariolo’s men (95-81) and is expected to lead the Team USA's offense once again on Thursday against a powerful Australia. The favorites for the gold medal have not reported any injuries ahead of their semi-final.

Durant & the Lillard-Holiday connection

Although American fans had reason to be nervous after the poor displays by a team that lost two exhibition games in Las Vegas against Nigeria and Australia, the USA has found its rhythm.

Part of that success comes down to the Damian Lillard-Jrue Holiday duo, who have proved to be the perfect balance in the backcourt between offense and defense.

Australia a live underdog looking for medals

Meanwhile, Australia, unbeaten in the tournament so far, had no mercy against Argentina, with five Australian players with 10 points or more, and with veteran point guard Patty Mills leading the scorers with 18 points.

Matisse Thybulle and Joe Ingles have also had a steady tournament and will likely be guarding Lillard and Mills, respectively.

Australia, with a roster loaded with NBA talent, is back in the semi-finals for the fifth time since 1988, though the Aussies are still looking for their first Olympic medal.
