The world lost a soccer legend on Sunday when Gerd Müller passed away. Take a look at some of the goals that earned him the nickname and made him a legend.

Update:
The best of Gerd "Torpedo" Müller

Former legendary German striker Gerd Müller joined FC Bayern Munich in 1964. From 1972 to 2012, he held the record as top scorer in a calendar year at both the club and national level. He was dethroned only by Lionel Messi. He scored 68 goals in 62 games with the German national team. Up until a few months ago, Müller also held the record for most goals scored in a season: 40. In May of 2021, Polish Robert Lewandski scored number 41.

It cannot be denied how influential and important Müller was for the Germans. He won every single trophy he competed for, including helping Germany to win the World Cup at home in 1974. In that game, it was Müller who scored the winning goal in a 2-1 win.
