Self-proclaimed world's biggest Real Madrid fan and AS' own Tomás Roncero gives us an updated look at the construction happening inside the Bernabeu stadium. Real Madrid is set to return to the Bernabeu stadium for the first time in a year and a half when they play against Celta Vigo on September 11.

Since June 2019, the stadium has undergone an incredible transformation, moving way ahead of schedule. The goal now is to have it presentable for the reopening, with no evidence of construction.

Laying in the turf at Bernabeu

In this video, Roncero shows us where the builders are working to lay in the grass. The retractable grass system is covered at the moment so they are laying the grass on top of a provisional plate for the teams to play on. The turf is set to be laid on September 7th and 8th, just in time for the game on the 11th.

The workers are moving a bit quicker now to have everything ready so Los Blancos don't have to play their home games at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano. Currently there are workers there nearly 24 hours a day. The construction will continue in between games but fans can safely attend games in the stadium in the meantime. Two new access towers are also being completed so that fans can enter safely into the stadium.

By the September 11 game against Celta Vigo, Real Madrid fans will be able to attend the games at the stadium. There is a government-imposed limit of 40% attendance, but there's hope that could increase before that date.

The renovations are set to be completed in full by the end of 2022/beginning of 2023.
