Matthew Hoppe joins LaLiga side Mallorca

The United States men’s national team striker had a breakout season with Schalke 04 last year and now he will have a chance to showcase his talent in Spain.

Estados UnidosUpdate:
Matthew Hoppe joins LaLiga side Mallorca

Matthew Hoppe will play with Mallorca in LaLiga this season after the team from Spain signed him on a permanent transfer from Schalke 04 on Tuesday before the close of the transfer window. The LaLiga side paid almost $4 million for the American striker and Mallorca confirmed the news on social media by posting a video of Hoppe in the team’s stadium, Las Palmas.

New opportunity to showcase his talent

"Matthew is a brilliant young player, but he would have found it tough to obtain the regular starting place in this team in the next few weeks that he wants. We wish him all the best for his personal and sporting future, “ said Schalke’s director of sport Rouven Schroder.

Hoppe helped the United States men’s national team win the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament after defeating Mexico in the final. The 20-year-old had a breakout season with the Bundesliga side last year by scoring six goals in 22 appearances.

Unfortunately, Schalke was relegated to the second division after finishing last and it was a matter of time that Hoppe switched teams even though he signed a contract extension in the beginning of the year. Matthew Hoppe also became the first American to score a hat-trick in the Bundesliga last season in the match against Hoffenheim.
