“Payton Manning or Tom Brady?” was one of the hottest points of debate among NFL fans during the first 15 years of the 21st century. And one on which Dak Prescott has recently weighed in.

The Dallas Cowboys QB revealed that he came to “idolize” Brady when he hit college, but that was not the case when he was a kid.

Asked in an interview with NBC Sports’ Maria Taylor if he was a Brady fan as a youngster, Prescott responded: “I actually wasn’t. I was a Peyton Manning fan, and because of that, you dislike Tom Brady.

“But it wasn’t until I got into college and realized what Tom was doing — the discipline, the focus, everything that it takes for him to be the champion that he is — then I became a huge fan of him.

"Then, obviously, over the past few years of him switching teams and his personality coming out and seeing how much of a great teammate he is, it allows me to idolize somebody and to idolize one of the best to ever do it. So it’s great to start the season off and have a chance to go and beat him."

Prescott was speaking ahead of the Cowboys clash with Brady’s Buccaneers on Thursday and unfortunately for the 28-year-old QB, Brady came out on top this time round as Tampa Bay got their Super Bowl title defense off to a great start with a 29-31 win in Dallas.

Brady on Prescott

Prescott’s comments come after Brady himself gave his take on the Dallas QB ahead of their meeting on Thursday.

"He's a really talented player," Brady said. "Really since the day he came into the league, he's shown to be a great leader for the team. We're just expecting him to play like Dak Prescott does – very talented, loose in the pocket, throws a good ball, they have a lot of talented skill players.”

Thursday was the second meeting between Brady and Prescott. Their initial encounter came in November 2019, with Brady’s Patriots defeating the Cowboys 13-9 at the Gillette Stadium.
