Real Madrid: Jovic and Alaba back for Inter, Marcelo misses out
Luka Jovic and David Alaba are in the Real Madrid squad for the Champions League match at Inter Milan but Marcelo and Ferland Mendy are discounted.
Real Madrid bos Carlo Ancelotti has announced his squad for the Champions League match against Inter Milan at San Siro on the back of a Karim Benzema-inspired 5-2 victory over Celta Vigo on Sunday night. In good news for the Italian tactician, Luka Jovic is available again after missing the Celta game with a stomach issue, while David Alaba has also been included in the squad. The Austrian defender returned from the international break with a muscle problem and was not risked on Sunday at the Bernabéu.
On the other side of the coin, Ferland Mendy has been ruled out of the trip to Milan while Marcelo is also unavailable, the Madrid captain pulling out at the 11th hour with a reported muscle complaint after his late appearance as a substitute against Celta.
Among the other players Ancelotti will have to do without are Toni Kroos, Gareth Bale - who pulled up with a thigh muscle issue during the warm-up before the Celta game - and Dani Ceballos.
Ancelotti will be looking to get off to a good start in the Champions League after Madrid faced some serious problems in the group stage last season, eventually finishing top of Group B despite losing twice to Shakhtar. The Italian is unlikelty to make too many changes from the side that beat Celta convincingly on Sunday but does have an issue at the back with youngster Miguel Gutiérrez his only specialist left back in the absence of Mendy and Marcelo.
