The sides take to the pitch ahead of the second half. West Ham to start the action. Quick glance reveals no changes at the interval.

Great first half of football with both sides enjoying sustained spells of dominance during the half... Just as West Ham were pressing, Mohamed Saïd Benrahma saw his effort take a wicked deflection from Varane to put the East London outfit ahead. Less than five minutes later the sides were level as Ronaldo stole through on goal and at the second time of asking slotted home.

CR7 (who has been quiet so far), gets on the ball, a few step-overs and a tame shot at Fabianski

22

West Ham go close twice in succession as Bowen shoots and De Gea saves, the ball rebounds to Soucek who rifles over. Different dynamic to the game now with the Londoners in the ascendancy.

Great noise level today at the London Stadium with a packed house in attandence today for the visit of United

West Ham have upped the tempo and now take the game to Man United with Bowen the outlet.

19

Soucek shoots but the Czech international fails to get his effort on target and De Gea happy to let the ball trickle past the post.

Greaves death overshadows Sunday action

Tottenham, Chelsea and England icon Greaves died on September 19 at the age of 81. He was among the finest players England has ever produced and remained one of the great entertainers long into retirement.

A naturally clinical finisher with both feet, who terrorised defences throughout a record-breaking career, the inside forward is the leading goalscorer in the history of the English top flight.

Premier League

Premier League table

Here's how things look in the Premier League. Manchester United in third, with a win putting them level with Liverpool at the top. West Ham back in eight on eight points.

United financial results

Off the field, Manchester United Plc reported a wider full-year loss earlier this week following after a season marred by pandemic-induced lockdowns and empty stadiums hit matchday sales and commercial revenue. The club said its net loss for the year ended June 30 was 92.2 million pounds ($127.2 million), compared with a loss of 23.2 million pounds in the year-ago period as the onset of covid-19 in 2020 disrupted all walks of life globally.

Man United head into the contest at the Olympic Stadium on the back of a surprise Champions League defeat away to Bern with the side from London enjoying a better outcome following their trip to the Croatian capital where they secured a valuable 0-2 win away in Zagreb against Dynamo in their Europa League game.

Only a handful of Premier League teams can boast an unbeaten record in this early stage of the 2020-21 campaign with both West Ham and Manchester United belonging to this select group.

Solskjaer

Talking points: Solskjaer vs Ferdinand

Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacted to pundit (and of course former team-mate) Rio Ferdinand questioning why Cristiano Ronaldo was allowed to vent from the touchline during Utd's defeat to Young Boys in midweek in the Champions League.

Ferdinand said he would have told returning signing Ronaldo to stay in his seat, but Solskjaer was having none of it: ""Rio, again you know, sometimes he comments on things he doesn't really know."

Curiously Ferdinand also admitted it would be hard to get Ronaldo to sit down and shut up. ""He's just a passionate guy. He wants to win, he's desperate to win, and he can't hold it in," Ferdinand said. "If that means he has to go up there and stand next to the manager, shouting instructions, so be it."

So, somewhat a storm in a teacup BUT it does indicate the huge pressure on Solskjaer right now. Man Utd have won three of their first four matches in the Premier League (dropping points with a draw against Southampton on matchday two), but after the Champions League defeat Solskjaer needs a performance this afternoon, as well as the win that would see them go level on points with Liverpool at the top of the table.
