Néstor Araujo could miss World Cup qualifiers with Mexico

Nestor Araujo has been a key player in defence for the Mexico national team under manager Geardo Martino. The 30-year-old defender started all three games for ‘El Tri’ in the first round of the World Cup qualifiers in CONCACAF earlier this month, but he could be ruled out for the international fixtures in October.

Injury update

Celta Vigo got all three points against Granada on Monday thanks to a late goal from Denis Suárez in stoppage time at Balaídos in matchday 7 of the La Liga campaign. The bad news is that Nestor Araujo, who started the game, had to be replaced in the 86th minute due to an injury.

The medical staff had to carry Araujo off afte he suffered a right ankle sprain and he will undergo a medical examination on Tuesday to determine the severity of his injury. If he is ruled out for two weeks, he will miss Mexico's upcoming fixtures.

Mexico will start the second round of the round-robin tournament in CONCACAF on 7 October at home to Canada. Then they will host Honduras three days later and on 13 October they will travel to face El Salvador.
