The signing of Gini Wijnaldum by PSG was seen as a great market opportunity for the Parisian club. The Dutch midfielder arrived from Liverpool on a free transfer, bringing with him extensive intensive international and Premier League-winning experience, and knowing what it takes to win the Champions League -- a feat he managed with the Reds in 2019.

However, things in Paris have so far not gone as well as the 30-year-old would have liked. Amid his struggle for game time in this initial stage of his PSG career, the Dutch international has admitted he is not entirely happy in the French capital.

"I can't say I'm completely happy.” Wijnaldum told Dutch outlet NOS.

"The situation is not what I wanted. I have played a lot in recent years, was always fit and also did very well. This is something different and that takes getting used to. I was really looking forward to the new step and then this happens. It is very difficult.

"That's football and I'll have to learn to deal with that. I'm a fighter. I have to stay positive and work hard to turn it around."

Wijnaldum needs time to adapt at PSG - Pochettino

Wijnaldum has clocked just 502 minutes in 11 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino, with the PSG coach preferring the likes of Idrissa Gueye, Ander Herrera and Marco Verratti ahead of the Dutchman. He has yet to score or register an assist with his new club.

Pochettino himself had stated several weeks ago that Wijnaldum needs some time to adapt, given the natural difficulty he has faced by moving to a new country and city, as well as having to learn a new language.

On Friday against Angers, the former Liverpool player will have a golden opportunity at Parc des Princes to show his coach that he can be a key figure this season.
