Manchester City are fully aware that, even though Phil Foden has another three years to run on his contract, they have to make sure he is happy and well paid. According to The Telegraph, the club has drawn up a contract extension which will keep the 21-year-old at the Etihad until 2027 as well as making him of the best-paid players in his age group in the world. Foden's importance to City and the England national team is evident, the faith which they placed in the player when he was coming up through the youth ranks is now paying off and they are keen to see him go from strength to strength.

Foden signed his most recent contract in December 2018, but his situation has radically changed since then. While it is being reported that the new is practically done, the player hasn't yet signed and City are expected to make it official next week. During his time in the first team squad, Foden has collected an impressive array of titles - three Premier Leagues, the FA Cup and four EFL Carabao Cups, as well as being part of the team that ended as runners-up in last season's Champions League when City lost the final to Chelsea.

New deals for City stars

Foden's contract extension will be the latest of several at City - De Bruyne recently committed to 2025, Ederson and Stones, renewed to 2026 and Ruben Dias until 2027, a policy designed to tie down the central core of a successful, winning team which is capable of reaping even more success in England and Europe. The only players whose future remains unclear is Raheem Sterling, who has gone from being a key member of the side to occupying a more secondary role during the past year, who has just 18 months left on his contract. Now could be a good moment for him to weigh up his options.
