In France, Le Parisien report that PSG is set to announce a capital increase in a bid to compensate for the losses incurred during the coronavirus pandemic.

PSG make one last push to convince Mbappé to stay

PSG are doing everything in their power to keep Kylian Mbappé at the club while maintaining a competitive team which does not breach Financial Fair Play regulations. According to reports in today's Le Parisien, the Ligue 1 giants have approved a capital increase 171 million euros which will boost its budget to a total of 511 million euros - still a long way of the 893 million euros of capital poured into the club when it was taken over by the Qatar Sports Investment Fund in 2011.

Raising money for Mbappé

The French daily goes on to add that the figure is right on the boundaries of being illegal within French football laws. In July 2018, Qatari shareholders raised capital with an injection of over 316 million euros after having spent 420 million on Mbappé and Neymar, converting them into one of the richest clubs on the planet although circumstances have radically changed since then because of the coronavirus pandemic.

This financial re-balancing through a capital increase is a way of offsetting the losses which PSG suffered during the pandemic - loses which rose to 125 million euros in 2020 and which currently stand at double that figure, according to the most recent annual report published over the summer. At the moment, PSG have not been threatened with action by UEFA or the National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG), the organization responsible for monitoring and overseeing the accounts of all of the clubs in Ligue 1, as their accounts show that they have more than enough liquidity to service their debts.

Another of PSG's objectives through approving this capital increase is to make one last attempt to convince Mbappé to renew his contract. In just over two months, the striker will be able to start negotiating with other clubs - including Real Madrid. PSG will be doing all they can to keep their star player by setting a budget which will guarantee, for the next two seasons at least,that they have a team which is competitive enough to win the Champions League.
