Jack Grealish could face questioning as a witness in the rape case involving Manchester City team mate Benjamin Mendy, according to reports in the UK.

Mendy has been charged four counts of rapes and one count of sexual assault involving three women, one of whom is 17 years old. The four alleged incidents are understood to have taken place between October 2020 to August 2021.

According to UK paper The Sun, Grealish and fellow City player Riyadh Mahrez could be questioned by police as the pair had been partying with Mendy at Manchester’s Chinawhite nightclub hours before the 27-year-old Frenchman committed one of the alleged offences.

"Grealish and Mahrez did not go back to Mendy’s house" - Sun source

As The Sun makes clear, there is no suggestion that Grealish and Mahrez had any involvement in the alleged offence or that they were present at Mendy’s home in Prestbury, Cheshire, where the alleged attack took place.

“They started socialising at one place and carried on to a couple of different venues during the night," a source told The Sun.

“But Grealish and Mahrez did not go back to Mendy’s house on the night.

“Unfortunately what started out as a fun night out at the club has ended with some very serious allegations

“Everyone at Manchester City was shocked when Mendy was arrested and charged.”

Mendy set to face trial in January

After being charged at Chester Crown Court on 10 September, the French footballer is set to appear in court in November, with his full trial set for 24 January. He has been suspended by City pending the outcome of the trial.

Grealish arrived at City this summer after the Premier Champions paid Aston Villa a British record transfer fee of £100million for the England international.

A spokesman for Mahrez told The Sun: “Riyad is not a witness and isn’t being treated as one.” The paper did not contact Grealish’s representatives.
